How is the challenge going? Have you started? Have you discovered a new book that you love? I hope so!
Time for something scary and intense! I am a big chicken so I don’t often read anything very horror like Stephen King, but I have read a few books in that genre that I like.
I read “I am Not a Serial Killer” a number of years ago and loved it. It is rather gory and sometimes intense. It is about a boy who after doing some research, realizes that he has all the tendencies that a serial killer has. This scares him because he doesn’t want to become a serial killer. He carefully sets up rules for himself to prevent this from happening.
Then a person dies an unnatural death. He knows, because his mother is a mortician, and he helps his mother prepare the bodies. When another person in town dies unnaturally, he knows there is a serial killer in town. He finds himself enthralled and struggles to maintain his control. He might have to break some of his rules that protect him to solve this crime before someone he loves gets hurt.
The description in chapter one is pure brilliance (disgusting but brilliant) and it gets better from there! Dan Wells, my hat goes off to you… if I were wearing a hat…just pretend okay.
I looked at Goodreads to see what else I’ve read…it appears I really like a good ghost story. So here are a few more that I loved:
They were all delightful in a really horrible, scary way!
Here is a list of excellent YA Horror: https://bookriot.com/2017/10/10/scary-ya-books/
Brightly has some more: https://www.readbrightly.com/best-teen-horror-books/ This lists Rot and Ruin which is AMAZING, although not terribly scary. Can you believe a Zombie story that made me cry? I loved this story! It had so much more depth than I thought a zombie story would have.
Mary: The Summoning by Hillary Monahan is one I’ve not read yet but I’ve heard good things about it. I might have to see if I can get my hands on a copy for this month!
Happy Reading and Sleep Tight!
