Book Review: Hush

I’ve read numerous good non-fiction books about authorpreneurship lately and very little fiction. I was really looking forward to reading a good fiction story. This book, Hush by Dylan Farrow, looked promising. I was given this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. As a book reviewer, I must be honest with you my reader or I am betraying your trust. I was not impressed. I chose this book because the premise was interesting. I love bookish stories-stories in which ink has power. In this story, ink is forbidden because it is dangerous. Ink causes an infection called the blot. It is like a bruise under the skin and spreads painfully until this person dies. That sounds horrific, so I’m intrigued.

Archetypes Part 2.5 of 2: The Archetypes

I didn’t anticipate I’d have so much to say about each archetype, so now I give you… Part 2.5 of 2 The Archetypes Continued Warrior/ Hero As you might imagine the warrior is a person who is good at battle and fighting. Prime examples of this in LOTR are Gimli, Legolas, Boramir, and more. They are expert fighters, (and if you watch the movies…beyond reason when fighting the Warg). Eowyn, “I am no man!” But if you think outside the normal boring box, you might also consider characters like Eowyn. She fought in the end and defeated the Witch-King of Angmar, speaking the best line ever written!

Book Review: Spark and the League of Ursus

So this month seems to be all about videos! I made a book trailer for this book. I found this book a delightful mix of childish fun and serious courage. The story was paced well. I read it in only a few days. The characters were interesting and relatable. The plot unexpected but not in a bad way. As an avid reader, I tend to be good at predicting where the story is headed. It did not always go where I expected, which is rather refreshing. (More on this below the spoiler image)

The Invisible Library does not have a fancy cover but it is simple and elegant and I am a sucker for any book that has the word "library" in it. So I had to pick it up! And I'm so glad I did! This is not a YA book but I loved it none-the-less. Book Review: Irene is a junior librarian for THE Library. This library exists on its own, outside all the countless alternate worlds. Irene travels to different alternates on assignment to collect certain unique copies of books..occasionally, by any means necessary. Sometimes this is an easy task, sometimes not. For this mission, she must go into an alternate that is infested by Chaos. To make matters more complicated she has been assigned an apprentice that is keeping something from her.

Trish is a 13 year old girl with a secret…a very personal secret which has already destroyed her relationship with her best friend. But she is tough and has more than friendship problems on her mind. The Euclideans are on a mission to wipe out magic. To do this they are capturing and experimenting (aka torturing) magical creatures like Nessie, Sasquatch, Jackalopes, Kirin, and more.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Book Review

This book has been on my to-read list for...well since the book came out. Somehow I never made time for it, until it showed up as a choice on the reading list for my Youth Literature class. Now, it was homework... the best kind of homework ever! I am loving this class which forces me to make time to read some awesome books!
