First Page Friday The One and Only Ivan I love that from page one, third sentence in, you get a taste of the narrator’s voice. You know the rest of it is going to be just as solid. I bet I could sit down one day this weekend and devour this book. I might have to do that. Guess What! The Lone Star Reading List is out now!!

Book Review: Storm Runner
Book Review Storm Runner by JC Cervantes Zane Obispo is a pretty normal kid.except for the fact he has a birth defect of one leg shorter than the other which causes a limp. His mom works hard to provide for the family, but there are secrets she is keeping from Zane. He never knew his father. In his backyard is a New Mexico Volcano which he loves to explore. He even found a secret entrance that led inside the volcano. He witnessed a plane crash. Not something you see every day, but what made this even stranger...the pilot was NOT human! Maybe an alien? Maybe something else.

I read City of Ghosts a short while ago. The book only gets better from here! I’ve not read the sequel, Tunnel of Bones, yet. I hope to get it for Christmas. My current read is Darker Shades of Magic, which is another book by V.E. Schwab. This one is a lot of fun too! So basically I’m a big fan of her!

Book Review: Young Explorer’s Adventure Guide Volume 6
This anthology is full of delightfully surprising and creative stories. The writing of each story is impeccable. Each one grabbed me quick as the Millennium Falcon on the Kessel Run. These stories don’t typically focus on interesting technology, that is the set dressing. These stories are about young people growing up and experiencing adventures.

Book Review: The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal. In 1952 a massive meteorite hits Earth destroying most of the east coast of the US including Washington DC. The climate changes from this will eventually make Earth uninhabitable so colonizing other planets gets moved higher on the priority list.
Book Review: The Invisible Library
The Invisible Library does not have a fancy cover but it is simple and elegant and I am a sucker for any book that has the word "library" in it. So I had to pick it up! And I'm so glad I did! This is not a YA book but I loved it none-the-less. Book Review: Irene is a junior librarian for THE Library. This library exists on its own, outside all the countless alternate worlds. Irene travels to different alternates on assignment to collect certain unique copies of books..occasionally, by any means necessary. Sometimes this is an easy task, sometimes not. For this mission, she must go into an alternate that is infested by Chaos. To make matters more complicated she has been assigned an apprentice that is keeping something from her.
Writing Advice: Writer’s Block
When I was little the doctor used to prick my finger to test blood for something I didn’t understand. The prick never really hurt that bad, but the doctor squeezing my finger to get enough blood out into the tiny capillary tube hurt like crazy! That is what writer’s block is like. The type of writer’s block I’ve had was more of a 10+ year paralysis. After college I wrote 1/3 of a novel. I decided to research the craft of writing. Great idea in theory. It was like drinking from a fire hose because I decided it would be a good idea to read every book that I could get my hands on. I had no idea there was so much to learn. I became overwhelmed and didn’t know how to implement ALL that I had learned ALL at once. So I stopped writing. Life got busy anyway. I changed careers, got married, had a child, moved a couple times. Ya know…Life.
Writing Update October 2019
It has been a while since I’ve written about what is going on in my writing world. So things are starting to settle down a bit now. *Knocks on wood* Grad school is done! Middle school is in session and I finally feel like I got my head above water for the moment. So I can focus on writing a bit. I have three projects in mind. 1- A novel based on the short story I published, 2- a nonfiction book, 3- short stories.
