Book Review: Nameless Queen
Book Review: Nameless Queen I first heard about Nameless Queen on NetGalley and the title intrigued me. This story is about a girl who is in the lowest caste level. She is named queen, but for her this means a death sentence. She must come up with a daring plan to save herself and her friend.
Lone Star Reading List 2020
The Texas Library Association puts out a Lone Star Reading list every year. They just released their 2020 list last week. I try to read as many of them as I can each year and I'm never disappointed! The books are selected by librarians across the state. The books are well written and highly engaging for teens and adults.
#FirstPageFriday One and Only Ivan
First Page Friday The One and Only Ivan I love that from page one, third sentence in, you get a taste of the narrator’s voice. You know the rest of it is going to be just as solid. I bet I could sit down one day this weekend and devour this book. I might have to do that. Guess What! The Lone Star Reading List is out now!!
Book Review: Storm Runner
Book Review Storm Runner by JC Cervantes Zane Obispo is a pretty normal kid.except for the fact he has a birth defect of one leg shorter than the other which causes a limp. His mom works hard to provide for the family, but there are secrets she is keeping from Zane. He never knew his father. In his backyard is a New Mexico Volcano which he loves to explore. He even found a secret entrance that led inside the volcano. He witnessed a plane crash. Not something you see every day, but what made this even stranger...the pilot was NOT human! Maybe an alien? Maybe something else.
Book Review: The Invisible Library
The Invisible Library does not have a fancy cover but it is simple and elegant and I am a sucker for any book that has the word "library" in it. So I had to pick it up! And I'm so glad I did! This is not a YA book but I loved it none-the-less. Book Review: Irene is a junior librarian for THE Library. This library exists on its own, outside all the countless alternate worlds. Irene travels to different alternates on assignment to collect certain unique copies of books..occasionally, by any means necessary. Sometimes this is an easy task, sometimes not. For this mission, she must go into an alternate that is infested by Chaos. To make matters more complicated she has been assigned an apprentice that is keeping something from her.Â

Book Review: Cryptozoology for Beginners
Trish is a 13 year old girl with a secret…a very personal secret which has already destroyed her relationship with her best friend. But she is tough and has more than friendship problems on her mind. The Euclideans are on a mission to wipe out magic. To do this they are capturing and experimenting (aka torturing) magical creatures like Nessie, Sasquatch, Jackalopes, Kirin, and more.
Book Review: A Hero Born
This one it is hard to evaluate the writing. Really I’m evaluating the translation. As a reader, I found this translation very difficult to follow. I teach ESL and I love learning about other cultures, so I was excited to immerse myself in a story originally written in Chinese. The words are translated to English, but there was so much in the way everything was phrased that I really could not follow this story very well. I kept having to look back and determine who this character was in relation to others.
